Our Staff has over 20 years of design and construction experience with emphasis on structural and geotechnical areas.  This experience is utilized to deliver products that take constructability and “common sense” into account.  We understand field issues and are ready to solve them using the materials you have available.

Jonathan H. Smith, P.E.—President

Jonathan has approximately 7 years of design experience.

He obtained his BSCE from the University of South Carolina in 1999 and his ME from the University of Virginia in 2003.

Jonathan is currently licensed in VA, NC, SC, and MD and maintains membership in the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers (VSPE).

Jonathan has been a presenter at DFI’s Soil Nailing Specialty Seminar at Nashville, TN in April 2005 and Chance’s Helical Anchor & Foundation Engineering Seminar at Columbia, MO in October 2005He has also published a Helical Pulldown Micropile article in the May 2004 issue of Structural Engineer Magazine.

R. Shane Mann, P.E.

Shane has approximately 15 years of design and construction experience including employment with a consulting firm, contractor, and DOT.  

He obtained his AAS in Drafting and Design Technology from Southside Virginia Community College in 1990, his BSCE from Old Dominion University in 1994 and his ME from the University of Virginia in 2001.

Shane is currently licensed in VA, NC, and SC (Retired).

Shane joined SEC after employment with the Virginia Department of Transportation as Area Construction Engineer for the Central Region of the Richmond District.  He was responsible for oversight of the Department’s construction program in Chesterfield and Powhatan Counties.
