Our staff has over 40 years of design and construction experience with emphasis on structural and geotechnical areas.  This experience is utilized to deliver products that take construct-ability and “common sense” into account. We understand field issues and are ready to solve them using the materials you have available.

Jonathan H. Smith, P.E., President
Jonathan has over 17 years of design experience. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from the University of South Carolina in 1999 and his Engineering Master's degree (ME) from the University of Virginia in 2003. Jonathan is currently licensed in VA, NC, SC, and MD and maintains membership in the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers (VSPE). Jonathan has been a presenter at DFI’s Soil Nailing Specialty Seminar at Nashville, TN in April 2005 and Chance’s Helical Anchor & Foundation Engineering Seminar at Columbia, MO in October 2005.  He has also published a Helical Pulldown Micropile article in the May 2004 issue of Structural Engineer Magazine.



R. Shane Mann, P.E., Chief
Shane has over 23 years of design and construction experience including employment with a consulting firm, contractor, and Department of Transportation (DOT).  He obtained his Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Drafting and Design Technology from Southside Virginia Community College in 1990, his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from Old Dominion University in 1994 and his Engineering Master's degree (ME) from the University of Virginia in 2001. Shane is currently licensed in VA, NC, and SC (Retired). Shane joined Structural Engineering Concepts, PLC after employment with the Virginia Department of Transportation as Area Construction Engineer for the Central Region of the Richmond District. Shane has extensive hands-on field experience with steel and concrete construction.
